Early Childhood and Elementary Education

In this program, based on a deep understanding of the philosophical and theoretical backgrounds of early childhood and childhood education, students will explore educational practices for operating a child-centered curriculum where children are the agents of their own learning. This program is also designed to develop the qualities of early childhood teachers and elementary school teachers as educational professionals by exploring the theories and practices of current issues in early childhood and elementary education and conducting qualitative research on various academic and practical explorations in the field of education.

  • Qualitative Approach to Educational Research : It is a subject aimed at understanding the philosophical assumptions of qualitative research and enhancing competence as a qualitative researcher. Research is conducted through participatory observation and in-depth interviews, focusing on the microscopic process in which teachers and children interact in the field of kindergarten and elementary education.

  • Theoretical Foundation of Project Approach : It is a subject that studies the theory of a project approach suitable for application to kindergarten and elementary school sites in Korea. It is a subject that develops the philosophical and psychological foundation necessary for kindergarten and elementary school teachers to develop projects and learns the basic theory of the Reggio Emilia approach.
  • Mixed Methods Research : This course explores the theoretical foundations and practical applications of mixed methods research, which integrates the strengths of both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Through this course, students will gain an understanding of the philosophical underpinnings, design frameworks, and procedures for data collection and analysis, while developing the skills needed to apply mixed methods designs effectively in diverse research settings.

  • Seminar on Philosophy of Childhood Education : The origins of discovering the concept of children are philosophically examined, the characteristics of child education are regarded as sensory education, and the practical plan is explored through education that meets the education and material of objects.
