  • Teaching basic skills for Multicultural Background Learners : This course aims to explore the characteristics of multicultural learners, causes of poor basic academic skills, development of basic academic skills, and effective teaching and assessment methods required to improve basic academic skills of multicultural background learners.

Kim, Jin-ho
  • Basic Numeracy I : Graduate students explores methods for teachers working with students who have underdeveloped foundational numeracy skills in school settings. It aims to enhance educators' understanding of the concepts and components of numeracy and investigate effective strategies to systematically develop students' mathematical proficiency.
  • Basic Numeracy II : In order to enhance students’ mathematical literacy, teachers should suggest concrete activities for each content area that can be immediately applied in classroom settings. Furthermore, teachers should explore a variety of examples, such as lesson routines and projects, that can be continuously used with students in class. By doing so, teachers can develop instructional strategies that encourage students to participate actively and take the lead in their own learning.

  • Methods of Teaching Basic Literacy Ⅱ : This master seminar discusses about how to evaluate and diagnose the reading problems of poor readers and dyslexic readers by using formal and informal reading inventories and explores effective approaches to teach them.
  • Research Methodologies in Basic Skills Education : In order for master students to become independent researchers, this class deals with how to design and evaluate quantitative and qualitative research in the area of Basic Skills Education.

  • Introduction to Basic Skills Education : By exploring the concept of basic academic ability, the characteristics of students with basic academic ability support and the reasons for basic academic ability difficulties, we gain an individual understanding of students with basic academic ability support and explore the role of teachers in basic academic ability guidance.

  • Enhancing Students’ Psychological-Social Skills : This course aims to deepen understanding of the components of psychosocial competencies as essential supports for learners who are underperforming in basic academic skills. It seeks to provide a conceptual foundation for these competencies and to promote theoretically grounded approaches to addressing them. Through critical analysis of intervention programs developed and validated in international contexts, the course explores practical strategies that can be applied within Korean elementary school settings.
